Getting The Job.

       Before the Interview:

  • Always know where you are going and the exact time of your scheduled interview. Make sure you have the physical address and the name of the person you will be meeting. Get the companies contact number in case you get lost. This way you can call them to let them know you are running late. Don’t call for any other reason.

  • Do your homework: Its important that you find out as much information as you can about the company. Ensure that you have done your research by going through their website and other social media.

  • Know and understand the job you are being interview for. Make sure you have the job description and that you have read through it thoroughly. Keep in mind any questions that you have regarding the job description that you can ask the intervieweer

  • Dress Appropriately: Rather be overdressed than underdressed. Your personal grooming and cleanliness should be impeccable. Ask the recruiter for tips on company culture to guide you. Ladies should not wear miniskirts, plunging necklines or heels they can’t walk in. Ensure you feel comfortable but professional at the same time.

       Do’s:

  • Ensure you listen when you are introduced and thus you can refer to the interviewer by name.

  • Offer a firm handshake, make eye contact, and have a friendly expression when you are greeted by your interviewer.

  • Speak slowly, clearly and with confidence

  • Always look interested

  • Ask questions that are relevant to the company and job description. Have intelligent questions prepared. Show that you have done your homework – ask questions you didn’t find in your research

  • Sit still in your seat – avoid fidgeting and don’t slouch

  • Ask for clarification if you don’t understand a question

  • Arrive 10 minutes early

       Don’t:

  • Don’t make negative comments about previous employers

  • Don’t answer only with yes or no – engage yourself in the conversation

  • Don’t ask to use the toilet – this should have been done beforehand

  • Be egotistical or defensive

  • Don’t chew gum or smell like smoke

  • Don’t allow your cell phone to go off

  • Don’t act desperate and that you would take any job for more money

  • Don’t be unprepared for typical questions. You may not be asked all of them in every interview but being unprepared will not help you
